An EU Representative is a natural or legal person established in the EU who acts on behalf of a non-EU company for GDPR Article 27 compliance. They serve as the official point of contact for data protection authorities and individuals exercising their rights.
If you're not established in the EU but you offer goods/services to EU residents or monitor their behavior (e.g., through website analytics), GDPR Article 27 requires you to designate an EU Representative.
Not designating a representative where Article 27 requires one can be fined under Article 83(4)(a): up to €10 million or 2% of worldwide annual turnover, whichever is higher. Ignoring an authority's order to comply can reach €20 million or 4% under Article 83(6).
Once your company has been verified, we issue your designation letter: automated checks are typically completed within 24 hours and manual reviews within 48 hours, counted in business days. The letter applies from the date your first payment was confirmed. Do not name rep4eu in your privacy notice before you have the letter.
